Grand Knight's Report

Worthy Brother Knights,

I want to humbly express my gratitude to all my brother Knights for selecting me to become the Grand Knight of St Vincent De Paul Council 5262 for the fraternal year 2009 - 2010. It is a position that I take very seriously and will continue in the tradition of our predecessors, PGK Reuben A Rendon, PGK Oscar Gutierrez, PGK Juan Martinez, and all previous PGK's, in maintaining the four pillars of our order, Charity, Unity, Fraternity, and Patriotism. Inasmuch as I feel proud and honored to having been elected to the position of Grand Knight, I know that to God goes the Glory and Honor of all that we accomplish in our lives.

Thanks to Brother Richard Gonzales for conducting the council election and to all the Brother Knights who helped with the support in the election. The new officers for the fraternal year 2009 to 2010 are as follows:

Appointed Positions:

The State Convention held May 29th to May 31st, in Houston was a great success. The event was professionally presented and all the functions were very positive. A great opportunity was made available to Brother Knights and their families to attend Holy Mass in the new Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart. Cardinal Daniel DiNardo presided at the Holy Mass, along with our own Bishop Tom Flanagan and Bishop John Yanta, and other bishops throughout the state.

Events coming up will be the 4th of July Picnic at our hall. The date is tentatively set for 2 to 5 pm, Sunday, July 5, 2009. The hall is rented on the actual 4th of July holiday.

The Fathers Day breakfast was sponsored by the Ladies Auxiliary on June 21, 2009. Attendance was great and the breakfast was delicious. Those who attended enjoyed a delicious meal consisting of scrambled eggs, hash browns, sausage, gravy and biscuits as well as fruit salad. Thank You!

Other events coming up in July will be the San Antonio Knights at the Missions Game, July 26 at 6 pm. $6.50 per ticket. Bring your family, friends, and neighbors and enjoy a night at the old ballgame.

The budget for the fraternal year is being worked on; please join us at the officers meeting on the last Wednesday of the month. This is to plan our celebrations, fundraisers, youth challenges, religious appreciation, and other events for the coming year. Working together everyone can contribute to achieving our goals and objectives.

Keep our brothers and their families in prayer, especially those who are experiencing physical, mental, or spiritual crises in their lives. Pray for our Brother Knights who have relatives in the military, and those Brother Knights who are presently serving in the military.

Congratulations and best wishes to the incoming officers of the Council, and Ladies Auxiliary. Best wishes for the 2009-2010 fraternal year.

Current active membership stands at 270, 91 members, are age 65 over. Sixty eight are over 70 years old (25%). The council has 186 Associate and 84 Insurance members. I believe more members need to look into becoming insurance members. The order has one of the best insurance programs --annuities, long term care and life insurance. Feel free to contact our field agent Roger Pedroza by calling him at 830-665-4323 or 210-215-7955.

I would like to encourage our members to support the Grand Knight by volunteering and accepting positions of leadership. Seven director positions and committees need to be staffed by July 31. See chart below. The work of past directors and committee men is appreciated but it would be great to see more new and older members involved. Help is available in the form of booklets, activity reports from past events, and former officers and directors.
