Chaplain's Message

Chaplain's Message

July is a pretty quiet month in terms of the liturgy. There are no great feasts. On Sundays throughout the month of July, the catechesis continue on Christian life with kind invitations to live and rest in God, whose "Yoke is gentle" (14th Sunday), to listen and become good soil to receive the Word of God (15th), etc.

July is also the month when we celebrate ou Independence as a Nation. It is a good time to reflect on the foundation of our country and the dreams of freedom, but beyond fireworks and picnics, IT is also a good time to renew the commitment to fight for freedom and justice for all.

Jesus tells us "The truth will make you free." We live times of huge lies, manipulation, and deceit in politics, media, advertising, and business. Are we free? Sometime one had to wonder. Do we at least have our own inner-freedom and truth? If we do, we can center into mright relationships with one another and with God in our daily lives.

Happy 4th of July!!!

Mother's Day Breakfast addendum

My deepest apologies to PGK Andrew Belko Sr for omitting his name from the list of Past Grand Knights who worked during our recent Mother's day Breakfast.

He was on my list and the Activity Report but somehow was omitted from the Knight Beat.

Andy was one of the first PGK's to show up for work that morning. Kudos!

As we close FY 2007-2008, I would like to report that hard times are impacting our Council. Account balances are at a record low. Final figures will not be available until after June 30, 2008.

There are numerous factors affecting our financial condition: Costs for beverages, food, and a varity of supplies have gone up while snack bar patrons (bingo players) have dropped. Membership dues are down. Twenty five members have been suspended for non-payment of dues for a period ranging from two to four years, 31 members are still delinquent on the 2008 dues, honorary life memberships (no dues) haveb increased bto 68 and disabled members stand at 11. Out of 273 members, 193 pay dues.

Thanks to a good number of members who have made generous contributions in support of our various programs.

Your support of Council activities is solicited.
